Who We Are
Nurse - Jen McNew
Jennifer is 2004 graduate of Shepherd University where she obtained a degree in nursing. She has been employed by the Gettysburg Hospital since then as a registered nurse in the emergency room. Jennifer became a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) in 2005 and has been working as a SANE since then in Adams County, and in Franklin County since January 2009. She is the SANE Team coordinator for the Gettysburg Hospital Emergency Room. Jennifer provides medical exams to children who come to the CAC. These exams help assure the child that their body is strong and healthy.
Thanks to an incredibly innovative and generous partnership with Gettysburg Hospital Foundation/Wellspan Children’s Health Fund, the center added a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Nurse to its on-site team in May 2010 and increased her on-site hours from 16 in 2010 to 24 hours a week since 2011. In addition, these generous partners provided funding for new medical equipment and a pediatric examination table.
With Jen McNew as our on-site Nurse, medical exams are offered on the same day as the child’s forensic interview, decreasing stress to the child and their caregivers. Each exam is conducted in a child-friendly room at the center and at the child’s appropriate comfort level. With same day service, it is the goal of the ACCAC to have 100% of child clients seen for specialized medical examinations. A timely, specialized exam assesses for any physical evidence, scarring, and untreated sexually-transmitted infections. It also dispels any myths that the offender may have generated during the abuse.
