David Turkewitz, MD, FAAP - Medical Director

David Turkewitz, MD, is the Medical Director for the ACCAC. He is Chairman of Pediatrics and Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at WellSpan York Hospital. Additionally, he serves as the medical director for the York County Children's Advocacy Center and the pediatric medical director for the WellSpan York Hospital SAFE team. ​He holds a faculty appointment at Penn State as Clinical Professor. He leads the York County Child Death Review team and is a member of the Attorney General’s Advisory Board on Child Abuse.

Dr. Turkewitz is the immediate past president of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and he serves on the Pennsylvania American Academy of Pediatrics child abuse workgroup, which collaborated with state agencies on the development of the EPIC training programs on chld abuse, introduction of the Nurse Family Partnership program to Pennsylvania, and implementation of the shaken impact prevention program that received legislative mandate.  He also serves as the current District III American Academy of Pediatrics elected representative for the national Annual Leadership Forum. 
He has made several contributions to peer-reviewed literature and is a frequent lecturer on topics related to child abuse and pediatric emergency medicine. 

Dr. Turkewitz obtained his undergraduate degree from Columbia College and his Medical Degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and he completed his pediatric internship residency at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He is board certified in pediatric emergency medicine, and his areas of expertise include child abuse, emergency medicine, consultative pediatrics, hospitalist care and critical care.
